friendships forged in sandpits
swings as spaceships
with fantasy you don’t need wings to fly
first kisses in the moonlight
uncertain touches
tender trembling and shy
and so many hopes and plans
made with friends on new year’s eve
not knowing what would lie before us
years of love and luck
joy and grief
childhood memories are strongest
when the world is full of wonder
you still take the time to feel
now that I am back here
I close my eyes
and the past suddenly turns real
and half-faded images and sounds
vividly come back
reminding me of long forgotten selves
and long-forgotten tracks
and so the years go by
and dreams get born and die
but the world still turns endlessly
gently, but relentlessly
